Balinese Cats


The Balinese cat’s longhaired coat is its main difference from the Siamese cat breed. Balinese cats are vocal like Siamese cats, but the Balinese has a softer voice. When two Siamese cats were bred and produced longhaired kittens, this was first seen as an undesirable characteristic. When two longhaired Siamese were bred and produced longhaired kittens, it showed that the long hair was not a random genetic defect.

Balinese cats have muscular, medium-sized bodies. The bodies of Balinese cats are slender and svelte. The svelte body is further accented by this breeds long, slender neck and long, slim legs. Due to the cats’ smooth, graceful movements, the Balinese cat is named after Balinese dancers.

Though the hair is long, it lays close to the body with the exception of the tail, which can be bushy. The lack of a double coat is what allows the hair to lay against the body. The heads of Balinese cats are wedge-shaped. Balinese cats’ eyes are almond shaped. The Balinese cats have blue eyes. A Balinese cat is usually less talkative than Siamese cats.

Balinese cats do not require as much grooming as other longhaired cat breeds. Balinese cats have noticeably soft, silky coats. This is because Balinese cats do not have a double coat. The double coat of other longhaired cat breeds is often what causes tangles and matting. Seal point, blue point, chocolate point, and lilac point are the only colorings that are considered acceptable for the Balinese cat breed.

A Balinese cat of a different color is the defining characteristic of the cat breed called Javanese. In 2008, the Javanese cat breed became a division of Balinese cat breed. Other than colorings, there is no difference between Javanese cats and Balinese cats.

Many Balinese cats are very playful. They are affectionate and seek out attention from their owners. Balinese cats are intelligent and inquisitive. With their inquisitive and playful nature, most Balinese cats will happily entertain and play with the family. Balinese cats are sociable and often seem content to just be near their owners, though they may try to encourage playful interaction.
