Functional Cat Clothing

Functional cat clothing is a type of clothing that serve a purpose for the cat’s comfort or improve the hygiene of the living environment. These are different from cat clothes, such as cat costumes, that are designed for the cat owner’s amusement. Functional cat clothing fills a need for the cat.

Pants that hold a cat diaper are a type of functional cat clothes. Some cats may lose the ability to control their bladders or bowels. This may be due to illness or severe injury. Cat pants that hold a disposable cat diaper can prevent accidents and therefore improve the hygiene of the cat’s surroundings. These cat pants often have suspenders that fit around the cat’s shoulders to secure the pants.

Some cats adjust easily to wearing cat pants while others may resist for a considerable amount of time. The cat owner should try to be patient and encourage the cat to adjust. Praising the cat or offering cat treats for positive behavior may help. The cat owner can try distracting the cat with a toy if the cat becomes preoccupied with the pants. The disposable diaper should be changed frequently. The pants should also be washed regularly.

Cat t-shirts and cat sweaters can provide comfort for a cat that tends to be uncomfortable cold. Hairless cats or cats with sparse coats may seek warm places to lie such as on computers or appliances. This could cause frustration for the cat owner and may cause safety issues for the cat if there is a chance the cat could chew wires or otherwise get shocked.

Clothing for cats can give the cat a source of warmth that will not threaten the safety of the cat. Some cats will accept the cat clothing. Other cats may become irritable or frustrated. A cat owner may want to try just one piece of clothing first to see the cat’s reaction before purchasing more.

Orthotics for cats are not a type of cat clothing, but they are things a cat may wear for functional purposes. Paw pads are booties that cushion a cat’s paws. These are helpful if the cat has sustained injury to the paws. Supportive cat orthotics such as rigid collars or leg splints may be necessary when a cat is healing from an injury.
