Javanese cats are basically Balinese cats with variations in coat coloring. The Javanese cat breed has a slender, oriental body type. The coat is semi-long with colorpoints. The Javanese cat breed resulted from breeding Siamese, colorpoint shorthair, and Balinese cats. The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) considers the Javanese cat as a division of the Balinese cat breed. Seal, lilac, chocolate, and red-cream colorpointed Javanese cats are not eligible for CFA competitions. The International Cat Association (TICA) does not consider Javanese to be different from Balinese cats.
The single coat of Javanese cats is silky and lies close to the skin. Their tails are plumed. What sets the Javanese apart from the Balinese is the numerous possible coloring of the Javanese. The colorpoints of Javanese cats that are accepted by the CFA are red, cream, cinnamon, fawn, blue-cream, seal-tortie, chocolate-tortie, lilac-cream, fawn-cream, red lynx, cream lynx, tortoiseshell, cinnamon-tortie, blue lynx, chocolate lynx, cinnamon lynx, fawn lynx, seal lynx, seal-tortie lynx, chocolate-tortie lynx, blue-cream lynx, cinnamon-tortie lynx, fawn-cream lynx, and lilac-cream lynx. The eyes of Javanese cats are almond shaped and slanted towards the nose. They have large, pointed ears. The muzzle is wedge shaped. They have long, straight noses.
Like Siamese cats, Javanese cats are talkers. Their voices are softer and less harsh than those of Siamese cats. Javanese cats are intelligent and curious.
