Russian Blue Cats


The Russian Blue is a long, slender short-haired cat. The Russian Blue cat is fine-boned and muscular. The coat of the Russian Blue is its most distinguishing characteristic. The coat is a solid blue color with silver-tipped hair. The silver in the hair gives the Russian Blue’s dense coat a unique sheen that is best appreciated in natural light. It is thought that Russian Blue cats may have been trapped for their plush coats in the past.

The origin of the Russian Blue cat breed is a bit of a mystery. The Russian Blue was originally known as the Archangel Cat or Foreign Blue Cat. The Russian Blue may be a natural cat breed from the Archangel Isles in northern Russia. The Russian Blue Cat was brought to England and northern Europe by sailors in the mid-nineteenth century.

In 1912, the Russian Blue was accepted as a unique cat breed. Prior to this recognition, the Russian Blue competed in cat shows as part of a category of blue cats. The Russian Blue became a popular breed in the United States in the mid-twentieth century.

The Russian Blue has unique characteristics other than its coat. The muzzle of a Russian Blue is somewhat short, giving the head a wide, medium wedge shape. The eyes are wide-set and emerald green. The ears are set wide on the head and face outwards.

Russian Blues are affectionate cats. They are quiet and clean. Russian Blues tend to be shy, but they are affectionate towards their human companions. The Russian Blue is an undemanding cat breed. They are well-suited to working couples who may not want to adopt one of the more demanding cat breeds. A Russian Blue cat will entertain itself if left alone during the day.

The Russian Blue cat usually gets along with children and other pets. Russian Blue cats have a unique personality. The Russian Blue is sensitive to the emotional states of the humans in the household. A Russian Blue may pay extra attention to someone who may feel depressed. The cat may act out playfully to distract from a tense situation.
