Cat With Cloudy Eye Symptoms and Treatments
A cloudy eye or increased opacity of the eye is associated with reduced transparency of either the cornea, the fluid media within the eye, or the lens. This change may be described as a “film” covering the eye or as an increased cloudy “whiteness” to the eye. Cloudiness of the eye may or may not be associated with a reduction in vision.
There are certain diseases that change the clarity of the eyes, turning it cloudy or making it seem as if the cat has a blind eye. This cloudiness can vary from a small localized haziness to complete opacification of the eye. Disorders that can cause a cloudy eye are keratitis, glaucome and cataracts.
Sometimes cloudy eyes could be cataracts or it could be a normal aging process of the lens of the eye known as nuclear sclerosis. Nuclear sclerosis causes the lens to refract light. It's like looking into a dirty fish tank - you can see, but not clearly.
A cloudy eye is definitely beyond the scope of home veterinary care or remedy. Please seek a professional vet help immediately if the vet cannot be too sure, please ask for referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist.
